@NRA THAT’S RACIST!

January 17, 2013

And also really stupid, but mostly racist.

Let’s break this down, shall we?

Are the president’s kids more important than yours?

Yep. I mean, I don’t have kids so, clearly kids that exist matter more than those that don’t. If you are a parent, I presume your kids matter more to you than the president’s daughters but unless you know launch codes or troop movements or the names and locations of covert US operatives, Sasha and Malia are more objectively important to the nation. Were your kids to be kidnapped and held for ransom by some organization bent on changing US policy, it would be a national tragedy. Were the president’s kids in the same situation, it would be a matter of national security. That is why, after the members of government in the line of presidential succession, the families of those people are the highest priority in the document that allows for Secret Service protection.

Then why is he skeptical about putting armed security in our schools when his kids are protected by armed guards at their school?

He doesn’t appear to be all that skeptical or he is willing to entertain an idea he is not particularly in favor of, in order to give parents and schools every possible option with which to protect their children. The 18th executive order he issued today provides “incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.”

What’s a resource officer? Most people call them cops.

So in terms of their “”the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” paradigm, the NRA got exactly what they wanted. Everyone is going to get the opportunity to have what we all fervently hope is “a good guy with a gun,” in school with their child. Yay?

So why is the NRA still bitching? We’ll get to that, Stay with me.

Mr. Obama demands the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes but he’s just another elitist hypocrite when it come to a fair share of security. Protection for their kids and gun free zones for ours!

No, that’s not at all factual. School security officers are exempt from the gun free rule as are a surprisingly large number of others. The NRA knows that, they just don’t like any law that prevents anyone from carrying a gun anywhere they happen to want to carry it, even if that includes into your child’s school.

The NRA has done everything in their power to prevent even the slightest and most necessary action on guns such as working their asses off to legislate against statistical analysis that they do no control and doing their best to prevent doctors from even talking to their patients about whether they or a family member has a gun in the home.

The NRA doesn’t give a shit about your kids. They don’t care about keeping Americans safe and despite what they say, they don’t really care about protecting the rights of gun owners. They care about protecting gun manufacturers. End of fucking file.

So this looks, to the untrained eye, like a pretty general “OBAMA BAD!” commercial. Why is it racist?

Because it is predicated entirely on the silent assertion that the president neither deserves nor has the right to the powers and protection of the presidency. It’s the same kind of othering that has been going on since President Obama became a viable candidate.

This ad fundamentally wonders aloud how dare the president take action on gun control. Keep in mind this advertisement was created well before the president’s announcement. It’s too well made to be a rush job. This isn’t any kind of rational response to the president’s proposals. It’s a blatant attempt at fear-mongering and encouraging hatred of the president because that’s all they’ve got.

They’re basically asking “how dare this man act as the president?” They’re asking that question to people with guns, at least some of whom have made it clear that they feel they have the right or possibly the responsibility to fight against what they consider “tyranny” with their guns. They’re asking that question and enforcing the lie that the president is not acting within his rights or under the Constitution. They’re asking that question and bringing his vulnerable children into the conversation. They’re asking that question abut the president that gets 30 threats a day, roughly 400% more than his widely hated predecessor.

They’re making him a target to people with guns and they’re doing that because they think they will get away with it because of his race. That is reprehensible and anyone who supports them after this, should be ashamed of themselves.

Now is the time, people. Contact your members of congress. Do it right now. Some of them are talking about attempting to impeach the president over his very rational and totally legal executive orders. Because what we totally need in the face in all of the issues that the US faces, is a huge show trial. Get it in gear. The president has asked for our support. Let’s do a job.

I have contacted my Congressional representatives, numerous times. I will continue to do so. They represent me, and they need to hear me, although – being from a blue-state-turning-red – they’re certainly more interested in retaining the gun-toting votes than they are mine.

    Done!

I noticed in the ad that Obama is given the salutatory prefix, “Mister” and not one that indicates his position. It’s been my experience that, regardless of how I feel about the individual in office, any message that does not refer to the President as such is always tinged with disrespect and therefore not deserving of any real consideration.

The office always commands respect, full stop.

Either is technically correct and they can be used interchangeably but the total lack of his title is noticeable.
